Usage & Limits

Every Virza workspace has usage limits based on your plan. Track your usage and understand what happens when you approach a limit.

Checking your usage

Go to Settings > Billing > Usage to see your current period’s usage across four buckets:

BucketWhat it tracksResets
AI creditsChat messages, summaries, extraction, search answers, and other AI-powered operations. Different operations consume different amounts of credits based on computational cost.Monthly (on your billing date)
Extraction jobsDocument uploads and reprocessing (1 job per document)Monthly
StorageTotal file size of all uploaded documentsDoes not reset

Discovery searches (Discover tab) are not metered against your plan limits. They are rate-limited to 10 requests per minute to ensure fair use across all users.

What happens at the limit

When you approach or reach a limit, Virza shows progressive warnings:

  • 80% used: a subtle info banner appears near the relevant action
  • 90% used: an amber warning with a “running low” message
  • 100% used: the action is blocked with a prompt to upgrade or wait for reset

You never lose access to existing data. Reaching a limit only blocks new actions. Your existing documents, notes, collections, and conversations are always accessible.

Overage grace

Paid plans include a small buffer so you are not blocked mid-workflow:

PlanGrace buffer
FreeNone (hard block at 100%)
Starter10% over limit
Pro15% over limit
Team20% over limit

Reducing usage

  • Delete old documents you no longer need (they go to Trash first)
  • Empty Trash to reclaim storage immediately
  • Wait for monthly reset: AI credits, discovery searches, and extraction jobs reset on your billing date

Upgrading for more

If you are consistently hitting limits, upgrading your plan is the fastest way to get more room. Go to Settings > Billing > Compare Plans to see what each tier offers.

Personal workspaces cannot be upgraded. Create a new workspace from the sidebar to access paid plans.
